Webinar – Book Launch: Exercising Agency

This month our webinar will be a little different. But we don’t launch books every month, as a rule, so it seemed like a good idea.

Mark Mullaly’s latest book, Exercising Agency, has just been published by Gower. This book takes on the challenge of translating his doctoral thesis into human-readable form. It also provides a lot more guidance on what readers can practically do with the findings.

Exercising Agency takes a close look at how project initiation decisions are made. Project initiation lives in a middle pace between strategy and project management. While it is a critical process, not a lot of attention has been paid to how initiation decisions are actually made in practice. Exercising Agency lifts the lid on the project initiation process, and makes a detailed exploration of the important, complex and often messy process of how strategic initiatives come to life.

The project initiation process involves an intersection of process, politics and personal agency. More importantly, different organizations and different environments require different approaches in order for the decision making process to be effective. Exercising Agency explores what influences and what detracts from decision making effectiveness. It provides practical guidance for those who shape project initiatives, those who make initiation decisions and those who are responsible for designing and implementing project and portfolio management processes.

Join us as we celebrate the formal launch of the book. You’ll hear about the development and some of the surprises that occurred in doing the research and writing the book. Even better, you’ll get introduced to the content, and what the insights from Exercising Agency means for you in your role.

And of course, I would love it if you bought a copy of the book. If you’d like a signed copy, shipped to your door, you can request one as you register for the webinar (or send me an email at mark@markmullaly.com). I’ll send you a Paypal invoice, and have it on its way to you just as soon as I can.

As always, spread the word to those who might be interested in this webinar. You’re welcome to point entire associations, companies and small countries to these links. You would be doing us a favour if you did pass this note around a little bit.

This webinar series is a de Jager & Co and Interthink Consulting production.
