“Design Thinking” is a term that is well on its way to being ensconced as buzzword. The challenge with that is both that it is taken for granted as a term, and it runs the risk of not really being understood. A natural consequence is that while the term gets applied broadly to a range of activities, its relevance is potentially thin or non-existent.
With the ubiquity of design thinking as a term has come the imperative that everyone needs to employ it as a practice, in all things. I have seen requests to employ “design thinking techniques” in disciplines as varied as strategic planning, project management, process improvement, data analysis and software development. In some contexts, design thinking as a concept might be directly relevant. In others, significant adaptation may be necessary. A few, you have to squint very hard indeed to understand the expectation and hoped-for outcome of design thinking practices.
In this webinar, Mark Mullaly explores the essence and essentials of design thinking: what it is, where it came from and exactly what it was intended to accomplish. He explores how it has been applied—and misapplied—in a range of different contexts. Most importantly, he explores how to use design thinking principles constructively. Mark considers the contexts that design thinking is relevant in, and provides guidance on how to appropriate adapt and employ them meaningfully.
If you are wrestling with design thinking as a concept—or looking for ways to intentionally improve your approach to problem solving and developing effective solutions—this is a webinar you will want to attend.
